Tavern….sloppy joe…loose-meat…umm..manwhich…?
Whatever you may call it, the tavern is an old-fashioned and yet timeless entree. Okay, maybe it’s a stretch to call saucey ground beef on a bun an “entree” … or “timeless” for that matter, but whatever.
Here’s the recipe, for those who aren’t afraid to embrace their inner Midwesterner:
Binkie’s Taverns
- 2 lb hamburger
- 1 T lemon juice
- 1 T vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 1/3 C ketchup
- 4 T brown sugar
- chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp salt
Brown the beef with the chopped onions. Add everything else and mix well. Cook it for a little while. Put some on a bun and eat with good potato chips. (Some like to top it with pickles or a slice of cheese. Go crazy.)
Told you it was easy!
Happy Thursday,

I’ve always wanted a GOOD sloopy joe recipe, so thanks for posting this! It’s a Midwestern classic!
Mmmmmm … that sounds good. Yay for mom’s taverns.
Why… Why… Why did you have to do this when I have been craving sloppy joes AND when it was a late night and there were no dinner plans.
You mean mean girl
