Get it? Mantel? Hahaha…oh, I’m glad I can make myself laugh.
Anyway, way back when, I mentioned the problem I’ve been having with decorating our mantel. This is what it looked like then:

I love the cutesy houses and the weird vase (that I’ve been told resembles Larry the Cucumber), but I know that it just looks thrown-together and homely. (Sorry, enough puns. Really.)
So, I whipped up a large-ish painting of tulips a few months ago, and one day, right before my family got into town, I quickly shoved the painting in front of the items already on the mantel. Because I am lazy, you see. And…I think it may actually work there.
Here is the painting, as it was still drying in my garage fancy studio:

The colors go really well with the intersection of green and tan where the walls meet. I think it might have to stay awhile. BUT, while the painting is the main mantel event, the ledge it sits on is still looking a little barren. As in, maybe it needs a few low candles in a straight row in front of the painting. Or something.
Could this work? I think it’s kind of pretty, and definitely won’t steal the show.

I also saw these adorable tea light holders – I’d probably need three, right? Or more?

Oohh…there’s also white and black and red. What do you think? For some reason I’m digging the black ones!

So, let’s hear some opinions. Do you like the simple row? If I do the flowery guys, is that, like, way too many flowers? I’m hopeful that this problem will be solved in the very near future! And, if not, I could just take the painting down, because all that other junk is still right behind it anyway….
Happy Wednesday,

I vote for the painting staying with the black flower candle holders. Though separate from the mantle and painting I like the clear glass ones better, but that is just me.

p.s. If you ever want a guest blogger, I’d be happy to do something.
Those tealight holders are adorable. I vote the red ones and your painting!
