This post was meant for yesterday, but I spent Labor Day, well, laboring on a yard project that never ends. I’ll share it with you soon, but in the meantime NEVER build a paver patio in your backyard. Trust me, you will thank me later.

Fall is here: the air is crisp, the leaves are starting to change, and I encounter at least one school bus on my morning commute. It makes me nostalgic for new pencils and fresh notebook paper. AND it has inspired today’s post:

Chalkboard paint is an easy way to add an unexpected twist to everything from walls to furniture items and more. Here are some of my favorite examples:

It’s great on walls, and can transform a space from bland to functional.

We already know I LOVE the chalkboard door at whatever….

I can’t remember where I found this shot, but I thought this was a great idea to help a child keep their clothing organized.

This post from Barking Dogs Flea Market Style is FULL of creative uses of chalkboard paint. I particularly love the screen. I have one in my pile of “things to get rid of”, but now I think I may need to break out the paint and clear a spot for it :)

I LOVE how Candice Stringham used chalkboard paint in her office. Do yourself a favor and look through those photos. You won’t regret it!

Some of the other great ideas for how to use chalkboard paint from that post include:

  • a recipe on a kitchen cabinet
  • a poem from a wedding on a bureau
  • a passage from a favorite book on a bookcase

You could even put it on your car!

If you have been inspired to include chalkboard paint in a project, make sure you read this article full of Chalkboard Painting Tips. I have used it once, on a wall in G’s office. It looked great – until we tried to erase something we had written. The wall was slightly textured, which made erasing almost impossible. So make sure you are using a smooth surface!

Now get rolling!

  1. I love this post!! I just told Brian, my sweet hubby, that I wanted to use this to paint the door from the garage into the house. Now, I am even more inspired! Thanks :)

This was the first painting I did when I moved in! I’ve got part of a wall in the kitchen painted for reminders and the wall above the shower for bible verses.

I love chalkboard paint. I’m working on a little project as we speak- hoping to reveal it shortly!
