Welcome to our dining room, where approximately 10% of our meals are consumed. We prefer to balance our plates on our laps while watching Friends or something equally intellectually stimulating. It’s a shame, really, given the amount of time G and I spent painting a wide stripe that encircles the space. This is the room where we perfected our line-taping technique, which has definitely come in handy.

My favorite features are:
the butter-hued stripe
my lovely capiz chandelier that sounds like windchimes when I open the windows
the church pew that matches the windows (more to come on that later)
and this piece:

I rescued it from a secondhand shop and gave it a new look with black paint, new hardware, and some yellow paisley wallpaper.
Despite its lack of use, I’m glad that we have a formal dining space. We use it for special occasions – Thanksgiving and Easter with both of our families, two bridal showers, and the occasional Wednesday night dinner. Don’t worry, when you come over we won’t make you sit on the floor. Unless, you know, you’d be more comfortable there…

There is nothing more satisfying than coming home from a long day at the office, cooking a healthy, scrumptious meal, and sitting down with my beloved, A., at our dining room table:

And when I say “healthy, scrumptious meal” I mean “burritos from the burrito place,” and by “sitting down at our dining room table” I mean “sitting on the floor in front of the TV.” Just being honest, here.
But, that doesn’t mean I don’t love my dining room table. My sister and I bought it a few years ago for our first apartment together. And when I say “bought it” I mean “Thanks, Dad.” (Sorry. I’ll stop that now.)
My favorite part of our dining room is the antique corner cabinet we found at a cute shop in a historical German village nearby. It houses the pretty china given to us by a close family friend for our wedding. I love it.

So….have you noticed the matching chandeliers that K and I enjoy? I will admit that she found it first, and then I copied her. But, I ordered the other color in a burst of individuality.

So, ‘fess up. Do you actually eat in the dining room? Do you have wholesome family conversations? Or do you watch 30 Rock and zone out like munching TV zombies? I’ll let you guess which category we fall under.

We actually do eat in our eat-in kitchen, and always have, even before kids. I don’t know why, because I grew up in a ’round the TV eating kind of family, but Dan ate around the table, so that’s what we do!
Hey K, I just realized that you have mismatched chairs around your dining room table … and I LOVE it. Very nice. And we never eat at our table (wait … does the coffee table count? cuz then we always eat at the table …). I have vowed that this will change when baby arrives. We’ll see.
This blog truly makes my day
We used to eat at the table, but now since we’re sharing my brother’s house with him and his wife, the table is more of a mail catcher than dining piece. We do enjoy watching TV as well as we munch.
I eat at the table quite often–it’s the hub that chooses to eat in front of the TV. Though since the two are about 6 feet away from each other, technically we eat together–does that count??
Like Lianne, we vowed to change when William arrived. So far, we haven’t but maybe when he’s officially eating at the table we’ll mend our ways…
I am so jealous of your chandeliers…..are you SURE they dont make them any more K?!!! I need it~~~
i love the chandeliers too. we could make them couldn’t we?
Oooooh. You know about me and my love affair w/ capiz. I love this space of yours. And the frame gallery on the wall’s just lovely!
