On a dark and freezing night a few months back, when ice was spitting meanly against the windows and it seemed like the whole earth had been without color for too long, a bold move was made. We painted a bright orangey-red square smack dab in the middle of our living room wall. On a whim. Well, on K.’s whim. She had the bright idea, and I just happened to have the paint. And the wall. We’ll just call it even.
Here is the wall before. Weep with me over its mediocrity!

K. and G. happen to be quite proficient at taping off and painting perfect squares, so a drop cloth was dropped, paint was mixed, and the fun began. Here is my beloved, A., using some Frog Tape.

We were as careful as humanly possible, but there were still a few little bleeds. Armed with my tiny detail brushes from my oil painting studio (umm…the garage), K. and I managed to clean it up to near perfection.
Here A. and G. relax with some Wii and paint fumes. Ahhh.

A couple of shelves and a skinny console table were the missing ingredients for a lovely, bold statement wall in our living room.

This next shot is more indicative of the true color. Sometimes I just sit there and drink it in. And then I go and rearrange all my photos and vases fourteen times.

Do you have any wall colors you absolutely love? This one is Baked Clay by Sherwin-Williams. It’s upstairs in our office/guest bedroom as well. I can’t get enough!
Post a comment and let us know about any impromptu house projects you’ve taken on! This one turned out fairly well for the 30 seconds of pre-planning involved.
Love,

I LOVE it! I have no favorite paint colors because we have been renting the whole time we have been married. Hopefully that will change soon!! I am loving this blog! You girls are great.
Spontaneous painting projects are the best! That’s how I ended up with just one wall of my bathroom painted. (Unfortunately I also have a short attention span, as you well know)
That orange wall makes me smile. At our last house, I up and decided to paint one dining room wall an avocado green. It took several hours for my guy to notice. It’s amazing how a little paint can change an entire room.
I love this idea! Now do any of you have thoughts on what us apartment-dwellers can do to spice up our walls without paint?
Stay tuned, Laura! We have a post about apartment decorating in the works!
