Man’s Best Friend

Did you think this was a post about Murray? We understand the confusion. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of Murray later. Today, however, we would like to pay homage to something G and A hold very dear – man chairs. Pictured above is G’s man chair. If he is at home, you can probably find him here.

When we toured our current house for the first time, G walked in the door, surveyed the living room, and asked the realtor where she thought he should put his man chair. That’s how I knew he loved the house.

G’s man chair is the first large furniture item we purchased as a married couple, the perfect combination of form (K) and function (G). I love the chocolate brown leather and classic shape. G loves the chair’s ability to recline and “how it cradles me, no matter what I have done” (direct quote). I hear it’s very comfortable – I spend very little time there as G is the main tenant. Evidenced by his “groove”:

Many times I’ve awoken in the middle of the night to find myself alone in bed. I’m not worried, I know right where G can be found. I wander out to the living room and there he is – snoring away in the man chair, holding his laptop and possibly the remote control. He always comes back to bed with me, though. *wink*

*******

J, here. According to A., the man chair is “the best thing you can do with the skin off a cow.” He has a way with words. Behold his throne:

A’s man chair was my gift to him on our first wedding anniversary, but I didn’t make the mistake of picking it out for him – no, sir. Hours of testing, reclining, and sighing went into the selection of this particular man chair. I think we may have even broken a floor model at the furniture store.

Though there were sleeker, more modern versions available, this chair just felt “right,” and the price was certainly a factor. It has seen many hours of devoted attention from A – whose favorite pastime is reclining with the remote in one hand, a small stack of Oreos firmly resting on the crest of his belly, and the hint of a smile on his lips.

Love the man-chairs! My attempt at purchasing a sweet leather reclining, albeit red, man-chair was not as successful. But alas, it is a mom-chair, primarily because the back does not rest my man’s head high enough. That’s what I get for ordering off the internet. Never fear though, the man got to pick out his own recliner for the basement family room. Now he thinks he needs a big wide screen down there too!

This is by far my favorite entry so far! Except I feel sad, I haven’t bought Phil a man chair… will you guys give me money from your lucrative blog to buy one? Or maybe I should ask some of my other ‘rich friends’. :)
I do feel like a man chair is very limited in color though, like it has to be brown or black…. its a shame. Why not have a yellow man chair?? Does that exist?
